CAREN'S RESTAURANT REVIEW - DOWNLOW CHICKEN SHACK
2018 Aug 24th
Today's restaurant pick is back on the drive, 905 Commercial to be exact DL Chix Shack... or Down Low as the owners, Doug Steven and Lindsey Mann refer to their brainchild. Both are chefs in their own right. They have re-created the delicious fried chicken made famous in Nashville. Who knew that Nashville is the birthplace of this spectacular, crunchy, spicy chicken, classically served with pickles, sauce, slaw, on white buns. Open wide they are big. Upon opening earlier this year, the demand was so surprisingly overwhelming, they faced sell out before 4pm.
Doug has fine tuned the operation and they are open for dinner until 9pm... or until sell out. What is the craze you wonder, I did too so I checked it out, witnessed the long line of loyal diners patiently waiting to order the DL super crispy golden brown chicken coated with a secret signature paste blend of spices that range in heat level from mild, medium, hot and extra hot. I sat down with Doug on the shack deck and learned of their passion to make the Down Low to be Vancouver's destination for real Nashville chicken...My take is they already are, with wings, slaw, fries, mac salad and fresh cornbread baked every hour they already are!
