Originally from Strasbourg, France, Chef Jacob brought his passion for traditional French cuisine, exceptional ingredients, and classical culinary techniques to Vancouver, establishing a remarkable legacy spanning more than four decades.
In 1983, Chef Jacob opened the acclaimed Le Crocodile, inspired by the renowned MICHELIN-starred Au Crocodile restaurant in his hometown of Strasbourg. Under his leadership, Le Crocodile became one of Vancouver’s most distinguished dining destinations, celebrated for its elegant atmosphere, impeccable service, and beautifully executed French classics.
Throughout his illustrious career, Chef Jacob received numerous prestigious honours, including Vancouver Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the BC Restaurant Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding contributions to British Columbia’s culinary industry.
In 2024, Chef Jacob received one of his most distinguished international honours when the French government named him an Officer of the Ordre du Mérite Agricole, recognizing his dedication to promoting French cuisine, agricultural products, and culinary traditions abroad.
After more than 40 years at the helm of Le Crocodile, Chef Jacob retired in 2024, passing the torch to his longtime friend and protégé, Chef Rob Feenie, ensuring that the restaurant’s celebrated legacy continues for future generations.
A true pioneer of Vancouver’s fine dining scene, Chef Jacob’s influence extends far beyond his restaurant.
