Sangria

by Christina Valagao
Typically, I am not a fan of Sangria. It can come laden with fake juice, pop, or added sugar. I have made this version to try and make everyone a sangria lover – even the haters.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large orange, cut into small pieces
  • 1 lemon, sliced in thin rounds
  • 1 cup strawberries, quartered
  • 1 pear, cubed and cored
  • 400ml Barker & Quin Raspberry Tonic
  • 1 bottle Spanish red wine
  • 1/2 cup Brandy
  • 1/4 cup Triple Sec or Cointreau

Method:

1. Muddle orange pieces together with triple sec and brandy until the fruit is nicely macerated.
2. Add the muddled fruit to a large pitcher and add red wine, pear, lemon slices and quartered strawberries.
3. Let sit for a few hours for the flavours to come together and the fruit to infuse the wine.
4. Top up the pitcher with the raspberry tonic, or top up each glass with tonic after pouring the sangria.
